And Guglielmo Vicario has already enjoyed an impressive first season in England under Ange Postecoglou.

Guglielmo Vicario hails Spurs fans

Spurs were tasked with the difficult choice of who would be their long-term successor to Hugo Lloris last summer.

So far, it seems they got their decision absolutely spot on with the £17m signing of Vicario.

The 27-year-old has been mightily impressive in his debut season in the Premier League and has even earned the Goalkeeper of the Year title at the London Football Writers’ awards.

He has enamoured himself with Spurs fans through moments like taking a jibe at their north London rivals.

But it seems he is also loving playing in front of them, he told FourFourTwo what it’s like to play in N17: “It is unbelievable,” he said.

“Every time you pull off a save, you’re absolutely buzzing. When you play in front of 60,000 people in a stadium like we have, it’s amazing.

“Maybe after a save, a big moment follows and you score a goal, you win the game and you see all of the crowd going crazy.

“That’s an awesome moment. We want to play quickly, keep attacking and show our character because we can engage the fans with that style of football.”

Fresh start under Postecoglou

Daniel Levy’s appointment of the 58-year-old in the summer is one which is proving to be a masterstroke.

Postecoglou is showing signs of bringing long-term success to north London with some of the exciting signings made under his watch.

Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson are just some of the exciting names to land at Spurs since he arrived.

There has also been the likes of Lucas Bergvall who is set to join in the summer after Spurs beat Barcelona to his signature.

But Postecoglou has even got the best out of players like Pedro Porro better with the Spaniard originally bought for Antonio Conte’s wing-back system.

There are a lot of reasons why this season could have been a hugely underwhelming one for Spurs, but it’s been far from that.

Perhaps that can largely be put down to the recruitment with Spurs looking to bring in good characters.

Vicario is certainly one of them with the 27-year-old spotted watching Spurs loanee Josh Keeley in the National League earlier this week.
