I was sold by Ange Postecoglou, now I could cost Tottenham in the Europa League

Tottenham are back in Europa League action in midweek as they look to take on Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar at home.

Spurs sit third in the new league format for the competition, having won both of their two games played so far.

Ange Postecoglou started the campaign with a 3-0 win over Qarabag, despite seeing Radu Dragusin sent off while Cristian Romero was serving a suspension in European football.

A trip to Ferencvaros next up wasn’t quite as clear-cut, with only a 2-1 win following in a match that was tense late on.

In all though, Tottenham have inched closer to qualifying, but still have some work to do when they face AZ Alkmaar next up.

There will be one familiar face playing for the opposition that could haunt Postecoglou, with the Tottenham boss having sold the star over the recent summer transfer window.

Troy Parrott set for Tottenham return with AZ Alkmaar

After an impressive season in the Netherlands last campaign, Tottenham sold academy graduate Troy Parrott for just £6.7million to AZ Alkmaar.

That may be an absolute bargain for the Dutch outfit, who have already enjoyed the services of the Irishman.

In nine Eredivisie appearances, Parrott has scored five times, while in the Europa League, he has bagged once over their opening two games.

Given that he is just 22 years old, has plenty of room for development and is helping his team push for Champions League qualification, there is clearly plenty of quality there.

However, Postecoglou never truly gave him a chance to cement himself in the team and could now pay the price for letting him go, should he impress against Spurs on Thursday night.

Troy Parrott discusses Tottenham move

Ahead of the return to Tottenham, Parrott sat down for an interview with Sky Sports, where he discussed his time at the club and life at his new one.

On potential regrets over Spurs, he said: “No, I don’t think I have any regrets. I am grateful for how the club treated me, helping me to grow up as a person and a player. I can’t really look back.

“This is the position I always wanted to be in, playing professional football. I understand that I am on my own journey.

“Those expectations are hard for any young player. I’m speaking like I am old, I’m still young now!

“It is just the experience I had, being out on all the loans and stuff, is more than what I should have at this age. But it is something a lot of young players go through.

“I believe for me I’ve learned to just put that to the side. It does more harm than it does good. Just to block all that out.

“I am happy now, being able to showcase what I can do week in and week out at a big team playing in Europe. It is what I wanted when I moved here.”

It remains to be seen whether the striker will haunt his former side when they meet on Thursday, but it will be a big return nonetheless.
