Tottenham Hotspur are absolutely flying at the moment, but what if the worst were to happen and they were to slip out of the top four?

Ange Postecoglou is currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table. This would, obviously, mean that Spurs would qualify for the Champions League next season.

The North London side are desperate to bring European nights back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They’re the stuff of dreams.

This is why a new Champions League format will be greatly welcomed, giving Spurs an extra shot at qualification even if the worst were to happen and they bottled the top four.

How Spurs could qualify for the Champions League without top 4

The Premier League’s official website says five teams can qualify for the Champions League through their league positions for the 24/25 season.

There is an additional place to be allocated to two countries, which is solely based on whose clubs performed the best in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League in the 23/24 campaign.

We will know more towards the back end of the season as to which countries will obtain these spot – but with the sheer amount of English teams in Europe, it’s very likely the Premier League will get the privilege.

They would have done in seven of the last 11 seasons – so the odds are stacked in our favour.

How can this affect Spurs?

It will directly affect Spurs, as despite the fact they’re high-flying at the moment, there will be a bump in the road at some point.

A potential fifth-place spot will allow Spurs a little more leeway when it comes to this. They’ll be teams such as Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and so many more chasing their every move.

That fifth spot could be the difference between Champions League dreams and Europa League or Conference misery.
