Archie Gray has been used in an unusual role during pre-season but has still managed to impress following his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs completed a £40 million deal to sign Archie Gray earlier this summer. Tottenham faced strong competition to capture his signature but may have completed one of the deals of the summer with the 18-year-old.

The midfielder has been quick to impress at the North London club with his strong performances during pre-season and his infectious personality off the pitch.

Gray has featured in the first three games of pre-season and impressed against Hearts, QPR and Vissel Kobe.

During these matches, he’s been used in an unusual position by Ange Postecoglou and has been asked about his thoughts on the role.

Archie Gray happy to play centre-back

Archie Gray was asked about playing centre-back during pre-season and admitted he is happy to play anywhere for the manager.

The teenager is predominantly a midfielder but was also used as a right-back for Leeds last season, highlighting his versatility.

Gray told WeAreTottenhamTV: “I’m just enjoying it, to be honest, I don’t really care where I play.

“Wherever he (Postecoglou) puts me out on the pitch, if I get the chance to do that, I’ll do the best of my ability.”

When asked about his best position, Tottenham’s new signing added: “I think it’s somewhere in midfield.

“But last year I played right-back and I’d probably say there as well and from the games I’ve played so far (for Tottenham) it’s probably centre-back.”

Archie Gray could be Tottenham’s answer to Yves Bissouma woes

Gray could be Tottenham’s answer to their defensive midfield issue which is a position that caused them several problems last season.

Yves Bissouma struggled to recapture his early-season form last camapign which led to the club’s supporters calling for a new number six to be signed.

But in the 18-year-old, Postecoglou could already have his answer to a Bissouma replacement with the youngster making a quick start to life at Spurs.

Gray has already impressed Tottenham fans during pre-season and will be a strong contender to start the first game of the season against Leicester.
