‘Gutted’… Alasdair Gold reveals ‘fantastic’ Tottenham player now set to miss 10-12 weeks

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon has now undergone a latest round of surgery which will leave him out of action for around three months.

It has been yet another torrid season of injury issues for the 23-year-old defender who has only been able to rack up a matter of minutes under Ange Postecoglou.

And he is now set for further time away from the pitch after picking up yet another hamstring injury which has required him to go under the knife.

Ryan Sessegnon injury latest

On the weekend of Spurs’ defeat to Wolves, Sessegnon featured for the U21s side as his road to recovery picked up.

However, it ended in familiar fashion as the left-back sustained a hamstring injury which saw him removed before half time.

And it has now been revealed by Alasdair Gold that the player has had to have surgery performed on the hamstring which will set him back once again: ‘Understand Ryan Sessegnon’s surgery on his right hamstring was a success and as with the op on his left hamstring last year the chances of a reoccurrence will now be very slim. Quicker recovery period this time of 10-12 weeks. He’s only 23 and got so much of his career to go,’ he said on X.

‘While he’s clearly gutted at being so close to a return and having that snatched away, this hopefully opens the door for the rest of his career to progress as everyone expected. It will remove that nagging fear about the hamstrings and now he can fulfil all of that potential.’

Ryan Sessegnon’s Tottenham future

Of course, this latest injury will frustrate some fans given the player was signed from Fulham for around £25m and there has been little to shout about since.

However, these injuries will only frustrate Sessegnon more and it is worth remembering that as his career has taken a huge blow since joining Spurs.

The 23-year-old has played just seven minutes of football this season after coming on as a late substitute in the FA Cup against Burnley.

And as a result, it is really difficult to imagine Postecoglou will be going into next season with Sessegnon in his plans.

It will feel like a huge missed opportunity for Sessegnon to impress under the Australian having received huge praise from Jose Mourinho who labeled him ‘fantastic‘.

The Spurs News have already been told by transfer guru Graeme Bailey that the club will be going into the summer with plans to add a versatile full-back.

Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie have nailed down their spots in the starting XI, but it seems as if the places on the bench are up for grabs over the coming months.
