Antonin Kinsky has bounced back well from his errors against Atletico Madrid, and now Gianluigi Buffon has had his say on the situation.

Former Tottenham boss Igor Tudor hauled Kinsky off after just 17 minutes of the Champions League last 16 defeat to Atletico, with the Czech goalkeeper making two poor errors.

Peter Schmeichel lambasted Tudor for his decision and other pundits and experts wondered when Kinsky would make another appearance.

Guglielmo Vicario, requiring surgery on a hernia, has thrust him back into action in recent weeks and now, Buffon has had his say on the ordeal experienced by the Tottenham backup.

Gianluigi Buffon shares why Igor Tudor made Antonin Kinsky call

Buffon has been speaking to The Guardian, and he’s suggested that he doesn’t know much about how Kinsky will be feeling as he’s never found himself in such a situation.

However, he’s half defended Tudor for the call which he made to substitute him off, and although it was shocking, he’s suggested it was perhaps the right call.

He said: “Well, let’s say it’s a really difficult choice. It’s a difficult choice for a coach because at that moment you know that any solution could be the wrong solution, in the sense that if he leaves the player on the pitch who is certainly in shock at that moment, he risks making the team and the player himself worse.

“If he does what he did and then replaces him, he attracts criticism because it’s not fair behaviour, right?

“I believe that at that moment, the truth is that Igor wanted to help the player, that is, to reach out to him and remove him from a situation that was becoming really difficult, and so he felt like making that kind of choice. If it had happened to me, I can’t say, I can’t say, because fortunately, something like that has never happened to me.”

It’s testament to Kinsky just how well he’s recovered from the Atletico performance, and he’s done largely fine against Sunderland and Brighton.

One eye is likely on the future when it comes to the goalkeeper and the fact he’s been given some minutes so soon after the Atletico game can only be a good thing.

Kinsky might get another chance to play this weekend against Wolves and with Tottenham badly needing three points, it will be vital that he produces the goods again.
