Gareth Bale is backing Roberto De Zerbi to change Tottenham Hotspur’s fortunes and build a squad that will get them back to where the club belongs.
Tottenham are certainly putting their trust in De Zerbi by making some big moves in the window, having agreed deals for Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.
👀 How would you react if Tottenham pulled off a deal to sign Sandro Tonali?
Is there a better midfield signing for Spurs than the Italian?
A deal for Sandro Tonali is also being worked on by Tottenham, and there is a belief that the North London club will be able to sign the Italian midfielder.
But following the last two seasons of 17th-place finishes, Bale thinks that the North London club must use it as a wake-up call.
Gareth Bale backs Roberto De Zerbi to succeed at Tottenham
Gareth Bale has admitted that he was so impressed by the way Roberto De Zerbi had Tottenham playing towards the end of last season.
Spurs won three of their last seven Premier League matches and managed to stay in the top flight by the skin of their teeth.
Speaking to FOS News, Bale said: “Yeah, it’s a tough one, I think. There’s obviously been kind of a a change in the running of the club, and it’s kind of been a little bit of a tumultuous time, I guess, over the last few years.
“Obviously, they won the Europa League last year, finished 17th, so it kind of papered over the cracks.
“They were lucky for survival again this year, so I think now I think it’s it’s a warning sign and hopefully now this summer De Zerbi’s coming.
💰 Fill in the blank: Tottenham should pay no more than £__m for Savinho…
🤔 The 22-year-old managed just FOUR goals and THREE assists last season…
“He seems to have kind of got the team playing relatively well for the last five games, survived, and now it’s like a fresh slate.
The Tottenham legend has now urged the club to give De Zerbi the full backing to build a squad which can compete at the top.
“Can there be a good transfer window this summer? Hopefully, he can put a team or squad together that’s capable of getting back where they belong,” he added.
Tottenham look to finally be changing for Roberto De Zerbi
Tottenham appear to finally be changing the way they operate in the transfer market, having moved quickly to secure three players already.
Van Hecke was identified as a top target for De Zerbi, and Spurs have moved very quickly to wrap him up, along with paying slightly over the odds.
An ambitious move for Tonali is now being worked on, with De Zerbi eager to bring in the fellow Italian for his midfield.
Savinho, a new goalkeeper, and another midfielder seem to be the other areas the club will also target over the coming weeks.
