Fraser Forster names Tottenham player who is often ‘flying into people’ in training

Tottenham Hotspur are finally back in action again this weekend, taking on North London rivals Arsenal in an enormous clash on Sunday afternoon.

It has been nearly two weeks since we last saw Tottenham in action, but the less said about the 4-0 defeat at Newcastle United, the better.

Tottenham need to come up with a much better performance this weekend and will also need to show cool heads.

We have seen plenty of red cards in North London derbies over the years and Tottenham cannot fall into that trap this weekend.

This message goes for everybody in a Spurs shirt but we know where the thoughts will immediately go.

Cristian Romero is a passionate and committed player who perhaps wouldn’t be the defender he is without that edge to his game.

Romero cannot afford to put his team in trouble this weekend though and will be looking for better fortunes than the derby with Chelsea in November, having been sent off in that defeat.

Fraser Forster on Cristian Romero

Romero is an outstanding defender and Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster has now shared what it’s really like to train around him every day.

Forster has been speaking on the ‘Fozcast’, speaking to former England goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Asked what it’s like to be around Romero on a daily basis, Forster noted that he just wants to win in every way possible.

Forster added that Romero is ‘flying into people’ even during five-a-side games, just showing how much he wants to win at all times.

Forster praised the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Ivan Perisic having been impressed with them too, but Romero’s mentality seemingly leaves a lasting impression in the mind of the Spurs stopper.

“We’ve got Romero… he just wants to win at everything,” said Forster. “He just wants to win at everything. It could be five-a-sides in training, he’s just flying into people – he wants to win,” he added.

Others have said similar about Romero

Tottenham fans know what to expect from Romero at this point.

A quality defender with a rash, aggressive streak in him, Romero seemingly doesn’t save it all up for opposition players.

Emerson Royal admitted in March that Romero ‘almost breaks your leg’ during training sessions, suggesting that he hasn’t encountered anybody who tackles like the Argentinian.

“I’ve seen few people hit like him in my life. He almost breaks your leg, but he gets the ball and comes out clean. He does it on purpose, but he knows how to hit. Like, there are people who hit but they commit a lot of fouls. You can see that he hit, that he hurt the guy, but you only see it later that he turned the guy’s ankle,” said Emerson.

Romero just doesn’t switch off that desire to win and his aggressive streak has been on show ever since his arrival at Tottenham back in 2021.

Ange Postecoglou won’t want to take that away from Romero’s game, but will be hoping to see him avoid any trouble against Arsenal on Sunday.
