Tottenham Hotspur have spent big money on Archie Gray this summer and will be desperate to see him become a success in North London.
Ange Postecoglou will want major reinforcements this summer as Tottenham Hotspur prepare for life back in the Europa League.
It isn’t just about big spending though; Postecoglou would much rather see Tottenham be smart than careless in the market.
Tottenham have invested big money in Archie Gray but expensive Tottenham signings have been a mixed bag in recent times.
For instance, Tottenham’s biggest signing is still Tanguy Ndombele and he was released on a free transfer this summer.
Big fees on Cristian Romero, Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven have paid off but Richarlison, Davinson Sanchez and Giovani Lo Celso haven’t really lived up to expectations.
Moussa Sissoko returns to England
Tottenham also spent £30million on Moussa Sissoko back in 2016, hijacking Everton’s move for the French midfielder.
Sissoko blew hot and cold for Newcastle United and whilst his displays were a mixed bag at Tottenham, he still racked up more than 200 appearances for the club.
Tottenham fans always appreciated Sissoko’s service to the club and he was part of the side which reached the Champions League final in 2019 – although he was harshly penalised for a handball in that final against Liverpool.
Sissoko ended up leaving Tottenham for a move to Watford in 2021, but he spent just one season with the Hornets before returning to France with Nantes.
Now almost 35, Sissoko is heading back to English football – and returning to Vicarage Road, to be more specific.
Sissoko has signed a two-year deal to join Watford once again, reuniting with boss Tom Cleverley in the process.
Cleverley is delighted with the deal, claiming that Sissoko is a ‘statement signing’ for Watford.
“It’s a statement signing,” said Cleverley. “I think it shows you the ambition that myself and the club have got moving forward. He brings a real powerhouse to the middle of the pitch; he’s a consistent performer. Even though he’s older he’s one of those players who still wants to learn; he’ll be coachable.”
“He’ll be one of our eyes and ears when trying to carry out our gameplan to win us football matches. He’s a key figure, someone I was pushing for us to bring in and I’m delighted that it’s happened,” he added.
Watford finished 15th in the Championship last season and are now looking for Sissoko to make a big impact.
Tottenham fans will be backing Sissoko to shine at Vicarage Road and some will love seeing him back in English football once again – something few could have expected at this stage in his career.
