A look back on five crazy Tottenham records that are unlikely to be broken any time soon.
First formed in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur has a rich history of 142 years to reflect on.
There have been many legends along the way, with a few trophies to boot as well.
Recording-breaking seasons and embarrassing defeats, it hasn’t always been plain sailing for Spurs supporters.
In this article, The Spurs News has taken a deep dive into the club’s records and picked out five that may never be broken.
Highest appearance maker ever for Tottenham – Steve Perryman

Starting off this list is the icon, Steve Perryman. Joining the Tottenham academy as an apprentice in 1967, Perryman would eventually break into the Spurs first-team aged just 17.
The midfielder would go on to be part of the most successful period in the club’s history, picking up UEFA Cup winners medals in 1972 and 1984, as well as winning the League Cup and FA Cup twice.
Perryman played for Spurs for a grand total of 17 years, making a staggering 854 appearances for the club, later returning to the club as a coach.
Record win – Tottenham 13-2 Crewe Alexandra

The year is 1960 and Spurs have just played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexandra, in the FA Cup. The sides would meet again just days in later in a replay, this time at White Hart Lane.
With 64,000 fans packed into Tottenham’s ground, many would have expected yet another tight affair, no one however could have envisioned the 13 goal rampage that was about to ensue.
Nine goals up at half-time, Spurs went into a goal-frenzy with the likes of Bobby Smith and Cliff Jones running riot. The second half would see the Lilywhites score another four goals, qualifying for the next round of the cup, with a 13-2 win.

Record defeat – Tottenham 0-8 FC Koln

A rather embarrassing day in Tottenham’s history, the Lilywhites travelled to Germany to take on FC Koln in the Intertoto Cup.
Intially refusing to play the game, Tottenham boss Gerry Francis was forced to field a side, in fear the club would be banned from Europe.
The likes of Stephen Carr and Alan Pardrew lined up for Spurs, only to be thrashed 8-0 by a talented Koln side – Tottenham’s heaviest defeat in their history.
Most goals scored in a season – Clive Allen 49 goals

Before the days of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, there was Clive Allen. This man personified goals.
Starting his career at fellow London outfit QPR, Allen arrived at Spurs in 1986 and would go on to score a crazy total of 49 goals that season – a record which still stands today.
Tottenham legend Harry Kane came close to equaling the record during the 17/18 season, scoring 41 goals in 48 games across all competitions, Allen’s record however remains and will likely never beat for some time.
The only non-league side to ever win the FA Cup

Yes, you read that right. Tottenham used to be a non-league side.
Back in 1901, Spurs were still yet to join the Football League, plying their trade in the Southern League.
That year, Tottenham would etch themselves into the history books by becoming the first and only ever non-league side to win the prestigious FA Cup – defeating Sheffield United 3-1 (replay) in front of 114,000 spectators at Crystal Palace (old venue, not the football club).
