Fabio Paratici recently left Tottenham after working with the club since the summer of 2021.

The man who came in as the Director of Football signed some pretty decent players during his time in North London.

Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski were all signed on his watch and quite clearly, he does have an eye for a player.

With Thomas Frank now at the club, Tottenham have moved away from Paratici, and he’s now in place at Fiorentina, with Serie A a league he knows extremely well.

Following his decision to depart Tottenham, Paratici has now explained exactly why he chose Fiorentina as his next chapter.

Fabio Paratici shares why he joined Fiorentina

It was viewed as a huge coup when Paratici rocked up in Florence in December last year.

Fiorentina were staring down the barrel of relegation to Serie B with just six points to their name, and clearly, Paratici going in there has helped them.

Fast forward a matter of weeks and things look healthier with the club now third bottom but just a single point away from pulling out of the relegation zone.

Paratici has been quizzed by Tutto Mercato Web on his decision to move back to Serie A and he’s been keen to clear up the question that everyone has been asking: why Fiorentina?

He said: “I chose Fiorentina on December 15-16. Fiorentina had six points, Ferrari met with me, and I came. It was a brave choice, because I considered various reasons.

“In my case, I thought that the Viola has a very serious ownership, world-class infrastructure, a group of people with whom I immediately felt a connection, and a city that is an international brand and that gives us great advantages in terms of visibility.

“It was the right time to return to Italy; it’s a great challenge, but I think Fiorentina deserves a higher level, even if today we have to accept that for the next four months we’ll have to put our heads down and suffer.”

Tottenham need to hit the recruitment jackpot next summer

After a pretty underwhelming January, some Spurs fans might have been pining for Paratici.

Tottenham do have to kick on in a recruitment sense next summer, with fans questioning many of the signings made over the last two windows.

Perhaps there is an argument that Spurs need to focus on getting players who are Premier League-ready through the door, akin to when the likes of Richarlison and James Maddison were signing.

First, Spurs have work to do in order to improve things this season and as soon as that is sorted, the powers that be must get to work on some adequate transfers.
