Chris Hughton is a legend of Tottenham Hotspur, and he’s recently been asked about the club’s predicament this season.

Tottenham claimed a first win of 2026 by beating Wolves 1-0 at Molineux, with the three points coming at a cost as Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons picked up injuries.

Still, it’s a step in the right direction with Tottenham now gaining even more belief that they can get out of this situation and remain a Premier League club.

Hughton believes the club have been hard done by this season with one factor and has suggested how they might have avoided a relegation fight.

Chris Hughton makes Tottenham injury claims

Tottenham have had some rotten luck with injuries this season and things might have been different, Hughton believes.

He’s suggested that the only reason Spurs have struggled so badly is down to the injury issues within the squad and has backed them to recover in the final weeks of the season.

He told the Daily Mail: “Every week you thought, ‘This will be the week the turnaround comes, when we start winning games’, and of course, the further it goes, the harder it gets.

“That’s the similarity I see to Spurs at this point of the season, with five games to go, but you can’t look at Spurs without referencing the injuries.

“They’ve lost so many influential players for such a chunk of the season. I couldn’t have seen them in this position with all the players available.”

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has seen a minor improvement in performances since his arrival, taking four points from three games.

However, next weekend’s test against Aston Villa is likely to be his toughest assignment to date and he will hope for good news on Solanke and Simons this week.

Injuries can’t be used as an excuse by Tottenham and it’s not time for the North Londoners to keep fighting and proving they can pick up points at a pivotal stage of the season.
