Tottenham attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has been linked with a summer move to Bayern Munich.

The Netherlands international joined Spurs at the start of the season, but like most of his teammates, he has struggled for consistency.

He could be on the move again in the summer if Tottenham lose their fight against relegation.

Vincent Kompany may look to Xavi Simons this summer

Transfer news specialist Christian Falk claims that Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is an admirer of Simons.

Max Eberl, the German club’s Director of Sport, also likes Simons and wanted to sign him last summer, but the finances were not right.

However, ahead of the summer transfer window, the 23-year-old is not a transfer priority for the Bundesliga champions elect.

That said, Falk claims that if they fail to sign their top targets, they could turn to Simons again.

The journalist said: “Kompany likes the player. Max Eberl likes the player but he was too expensive last summer.

“There are a few names on the list which are higher rated at the moment. We will talk about them.

“But of course, if they don’t get somebody like the number one option and Xavi Simons would be really cheap, perhaps this could be an option.”

How can Tottenham convince Simons to stay this summer?

For starters, surviving relegation would do Spurs a world of good in their quest to retain the attacking midfielder’s services.

If they succeed in doing so, it will be on Roberto De Zerbi to convince Simons that he has a proper plan in place to get the side back to competing for Champions League places.

The Italian has proven that he can play an attractive brand of football at Brighton and also win games, so that could convince the Dutchman to stay.

De Zerbi can play the 23-year-old in the right position, too, and potentially look to build the team around him.

Simons is arguably the best technical player at the club, so it would make a lot of sense to prioritise keeping him.

For now, the focus will not be on his exit but the next five games in the Premier League.
