‘Certainly’… Call made for player Tottenham sold in January to be put into England’s squad today

Journalist Henry Winter has backed Eric Dier to be in consideration for Gareth Southgate’s England squad on Thursday.

The England manager is set to announce his squad for the latest round of friendly games in the coming weeks.

And having left Tottenham Hotpsur in January, Eric Dier has been tipped to potentially be included in the national side.

Eric Dier England appearances

Over his career, Dier has now racked up an impressive 49 appearances for England and is waiting to make his half century.

He has now been waiting since 2022 to make that 50^th appearance for the Three Lions.

This is not to say he hasn’t been included in squads since then, but his last appearance did come all the way back in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Speaking on TalkSPORT ahead of Thursday’s announcement, Winter said: “If you actually look at the competition Eric Dier is up against, if you actually hope Southgate goes out and sees the way he’s playing, talks to Harry Kane, talks to Tuchel and sees what Eric Dier’s doing… Eric Dier certainly deserves to be in consideration on Thursday.”

Eric Dier’s Tottenham contract

The 30-year-old departed Hotspur Way in the January transfer window with just a matter of months remaining on his deal.

However, he will not be returning to Spurs with Bayern Munich having already made his stay permanent ahead of the summer.

And it is fair to say the Englishman is enjoying life in the Bundesliga having become the only player to play 500+ minutes and not have been dribbled past.

Playing with his former Spurs teammate Harry Kane will also have been a big help towards being able to settle into life in Germany.

Although his past experiences having lived abroad will put Dier in a good position to bed in quickly.

With Kane being the England captain, it will be interesting to see if he has any influence on Southgate’s decision ahead of Thursday.

Regardless, it is good to hear Dier is enjoying his football again having not been given much of a sniff under Ange Postecoglou.
