Fraser Forster has admitted that his former teammate has raved about Guglielmo Vicario ‘for ages’.

Speaking to Tottenham’s Off The Shelf podcast, the goalkeeper heaped praise on the club’s summer signing.

Forster arrived in North London from Southampton last summer as back-up to Hugo Lloris and enjoyed a run of games when the Frenchman picked up a knee ligament injury earlier this year.

The 35-year-old is now ahead of Lloris in the pecking order, but now plays back-up to Vicario instead.

The Italian joined in a £17.2 million deal from Empoli in the summer and has since been highly influential on a brilliant start to the campaign for Spurs.

Vicario has three clean sheets to his name in the Premier League and has proved a brilliant replacement for Lloris, with Forster also really impressed with his counterpart.

“He’s been brilliant,” Forster said. “I think his performances in the games have been very good and he’s made big saves. [It’s] not easy coming to a new club, new country. His English is very good which has really helped him.

“One of my mates from Celtic actually played with him at Empoli and he’s raved about him for ages, so as soon as he was coming here he said he’s a very, very good goalkeeper. Top guy. He’s been brilliant in the games, he’s been brilliant around the place, trains well and works hard, so it’s a good start for him.”

Vicario is a worthy Lloris replacement

Guglielmo Vicario’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed at Tottenham, but he has definitely been a bit of an unsung hero.

The 27-year-old has been sensational since arriving in England, though doesn’t get the plaudits that the likes of Yves Bissouma and Destiny Udogie have received since forcing their way into the starting line-up.

Spurs relied on Hugo Lloris for so long and he was a brilliant servant to them, but bringing in a new, young goalkeeper in Vicario is a breath of fresh air and fans will hope they can keep him around for a very long time.
