Ben Davies says Tottenham have a top talent in their ranks who’s so quick he’s a ‘nightmare for defenders’

Tottenham Hotspur have some work to do during the international break in order to bounce back after yet another torrid result.

Spurs have sadly developed a habit of losing just before an international break, which carried on ahead of the November games as they fell to a shock 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town.

However, Tottenham have also shown that, on their day, they can put anyone to the sword, as was the case against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

One main positive at Spurs is that they have brought in a lot of young players who could well become the future of the club.

The likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Destiny Udogie, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall all look like they have an incredibly bright future ahead of them.

Now, Tottenham veteran Ben Davies has spoken highly of a young Spurs player who he says is a “proper difficult opponent” to overcome.

Ben Davies wowed by Tottenham and Wales teammate Brennan Johnson

The player in question is Brennan Johnson, who has come to the fore this season after needing a bit of time to find his feet at Tottenham.

The 23-year-old is Spurs’ top scorer at present with seven goals in all competitions, including a run of six in consecutive games a month ago.

Davies, speaking at Wales’ pre-match press conference ahead of the Turkey game, was eager to sing his compatriot’s praises.

“When you come into the team at international level it does take a bit of time to get going,” he said, as per The Sun.

“You make a few substitute appearances at the start but now Brennan’s got a pretty settled position in the team.

“We know how dangerous he can be and if we want to be successful, he’s definitely going to be a big part of that.

“He’s blessed with pace and that’s a nightmare for defenders – he’s a proper difficult opponent. I’d much prefer to have him on my team.

“He’s a player that the moment you switch off, he can take advantage because he’s so disciplined in his positioning and timing. It was a matter of time before it all clicked.

“He creates chances and always looks threatening. He works hard, he’s a great guy and he deserves his success. I’m absolutely delighted for him.

“If he keeps putting the ball in the back of the net, then that’s all we can ask for.”

What Alasdair Gold has said about Johnson

Earlier this week, Alasdair Gold shared his Tottenham player ratings for the season so far, and Johnson received a score of 8 out of 10.

Gold wrote on football.london: ‘Struggled in his first two games before coming to the fore again in an impressive second half at Newcastle, forcing the own goal.

‘Then after a tough day against Arsenal and the subsequent social media abuse, he deactivated his Instagram account for a spell and hasn’t looked back since with a goal in each of the next six matches plus another for Wales.

‘He might drift in and out of games at times and his defending can still improve – Sunday was a good example of of that – but he’s Spurs’ top scorer with seven goals and has been there in big moments for the team.

‘At just 23, there’s much more to come as well and the way he bounced back so strongly from the abuse and criticism deserves plenty of respect, which is all shown in his rating.’
