Archie Gray has suggested a major reason he joined Tottenham Hotspur came down to one man at the club.

Archie Gray officially moved to Spurs on Tuesday morning, with the 18-year-old making the big switch from Elland Road to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As Gray joins Tottenham, now-former Spurs defender Joe Rodon makes the permanent switch to Leeds in a separate deal.

The youngster had his first interview for the Lilywhites released just after the announcement, where he revealed something that shows his Tottenham move was meant to be.

Archie Gray reveals a big factor in joining Tottenham Hotspur

Despite being born in Durham and joining his former employers at the under-nine level, it is a club north of the border that has the former Leeds man’s heart.

In an interview that was posted on Tottenham’s X account, the 18-year-old told the media team: “I’m not going to lie to you, I’m a massive Celtic fan so I absolutely love him [Ange Postecoglou]. My whole family are [Celtic fans] my whole family love him.”

He continued: “I haven’t really said this to be fair, but he’s a massive factor because playing under a really good manager is really important for me as well. I’ve still got loads to learn because I’m only 18 so that’s really important.”

Gray’s admittance as a Celtic fan means that few can be surprised at his love of the now Spurs boss. The 56-year-old spent two years at Celtic and won the treble in his final season, picking up FIFA World Coach of the Year in the process.

Ange Postecoglou’s increasing influence

Despite his obvious love for Postecoglou from his support for the green half of Glasgow, It is not just the Aussie’s achievements at his previous club that have wooed the midfielder. The new recruit admitted that playing under a really good manager was an important factor for him.

The Tottenham manager’s growing reputation for attractive football seems to precede him, with fellow new recruit, Lucas Bergvall, citing how the prospect of playing for Ange also helped lure him to the club.

An increasing reputation for Tottenham as a place where young talent can come and flourish under a manager who trusts players can only be a good thing for the North London side’s recruitment.
