Ange Postecoglou’s comments on Dominic Solanke’s illness give Tottenham fans reason to be optimistic before Bournemouth trip

Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on Dominic Solanke after the striker missed Tottenham Hotspur’s lacklustre 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Tottenham limped to a 1-1 draw at home to 10-man Fulham as injuries took their toll on Postecoglou’s team who looked well off the pace. The Lilywhites looked sluggish for 90 minutes as they failed to win yet again following a Europa League midweek match.

The Spurs boss was without five starters for the clash including Solanke, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Guglielmo Vicario. The North London club face another quick turnaround as they travel to Bournemouth on Thursday and they will be hoping to have Solanke back to face his former club.

Postecoglou expects Solanke to be fit for Bournemouth

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Dominic Solanke is expected to be fit to face Bournemouth on Thursday. The striker was sent home ahead of the clash with Fulham after struggling with an illness and was a big miss for the hosts.

The North London club lacked any real cutting edge against the Cottagers and failed to capitalise on the visitors going down to 10 men. Postecoglou started with a forward line of Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Heung-min Son.

Speaking to the media after the Fulham game, Postecoglou revealed that he expects Solanke to be available to face Bournemouth. He said: “He trained yesterday, came in today but didn’t look well at all so we sent him home. It’s obviously an illness, not an injury so we just need to see how he settles down the next couple of days, but hopefully it’s nothing too significant.”

Will Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven be back vs Bournemouth?

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are not expected to be back for the trip to the south coast, according to Postecoglou. The 59-year-old claimed ahead of Fulham that the Argentine was the closest to returning, however, his defensive partner is set for another few weeks out.

Van de Ven returned to training outdoors this week but he is still someway from being able to return to action. Meanwhile, Mikey Moore is a few weeks away as he struggles with a virus. Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison will all be back in the New Year.
