Ange Postecoglou told how severe Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury could be after Tottenham beat Man City

Micky van de Ven suffered what looked like a bad hamstring injury against Manchester City putting a slight dampener on Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win.

Timo Werner’s first goal of the season and a great strike from Pape Matar Sarr saw Spurs defeat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup round of 16.

Next up in the competition is a home tie against Manchester United, but despite a successful result and a home draw, Spurs fans will be very concerned with the fitness of Van de Ven.

The Dutch defender suffered a similar injury last season which kept him out for nearly two months and this time around, the North London club will be hoping that isn’t the case.

How bad is Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury?

Tottenham have been told by injury expert Physio Scout on X that Van de Ven’s hamstring injury could be less serious than first feared and looks likely to be either tightness or a moderate strain.

Van de Ven was spotted feeling the back of his leg before the game which suggests he was already suffering from a bit of tightness in the warm-up.

The defender picked up the injury when tacking Man City’s Savinho with the challenge putting his hamstring in an uncomfortable position and increasing the tightness.

As always, without scans, it’s tricky to put an actual timeframe on the injury but if it is just tightness, his recovery would be less than a week. However, a more serious grade one or two strain would sideline him for two to four or four to six weeks.

The 23-year-old is more than likely to miss the game against Aston Villa on November 3 and Spurs probably won’t rush him back.

How could Tottenham line up vs Aston Villa without Micky van de Ven?

Radu Dragusin is the man set to keep his place in the team following Van de Ven’s injury and an impressive showing against City. The Romanian had a great game against the Premier League champions making just his fifth start of the season.

Meanwhile, there are slight concerns over both Cristian Romero, who was taken off as a precaution, and Dominic Solanke, who looked dead on his feet after the Carabao Cup win. Ange Postecoglou will need to assess the duo ahead of the clash with Villa.

Tottenham’s predicted team vs Aston Villa: Vicario; Udogie, Dragusin, Romero, Porro; Bissouma, Sarr, Kulusevski; Son, Johnson, Richarlison.
