Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now claimed Spurs would have been better off if they signed one player in the summer.

Defeat on Tuesday night against Manchester City means Tottenham can only finish as high as fifth place on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou‘s men made a good account of themselves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the champions-elect.

However, Spurs still fell short and that saw the Australian lose his temper in his post-match press conference as he targeted the fans.

But the 58-year-old did have some positives to take from the game as he singled out a number of players for praise.

With Spurs missing out on Champions League qualification, Postecoglou has now claimed his side could have finished higher had they signed one player in the summer window.

Ange Postecoglou wished Spurs signed player last summer

The two transfer windows Postecoglou has had at Hotspur Way, the Australian has been backed by Daniel Levy adequately.

Players like Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson were brought in last summer.

And the January window saw further players added to his squad with Timo Werner signed on loan alongside the addition of Radu Dragusin.

After Tuesday’s game against City, the Spurs boss has now admitted he wished Spurs had made the signing of the Romanian earlier in the season.

Speaking about the 22-year-old centre-back after the game, Postecoglou told the media he is a player who will have a big future at Spurs.

“I thought he did really well, look, he’s a good player and will be a good player for us. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities but, fair to say, if we had him in the first half of the year, our season would have been a bit different.”

Radu Dragusin showed why he should have started more

The past few weeks have been difficult for Spurs when it comes to injuries at left-back with both Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies sidelined.

That has seen the likes of Emerson Royal and even Oliver Skipp play on the left side of defence.

However, Tuesday night finally saw Van de Ven switched over to left-back with Dragusin partnering Cristian Romero.

And it was a performance which certainly impressed as he played a big part in a solid defensive display on the whole.

The game against the Blades on Sunday may not offer much perspective as to what to expect next season.

But Europa League qualification would surely promise more regular action next season for the player who Postecoglou has labelled as “outstanding“.
