Tottenham Hotspur fans were concerned as to why Destiny Udogie was subbed off at half-time against Coventry with fears he may have picked up an injury.

The defender was replaced by Djed Spence during the interval, with the substitute scoring the equaliser for Tottenham.

Brennan Johnson netted the winner late on against the Championship side to save Ange Postecoglou’s blushes, who had made eight changes for the match.

Mark Robins’ side took the lead just after the hour mark as the North London club looked set for another shocking cup exit to lower-league opposition.

However, on came the cavalry, with Dejan Kulusevski teeing up Spence to score the equaliser before Johnson nicked it late on with an exquisite finish.

Why Udogie was subbed off vs Coventry

Postecoglou has alleviated fears of a potential injury for Udogie by claiming he took the defender off to avoid overloading the Italian.

The 21-year-old has only recently returned from a long-term hamstring injury and has already played the majority of Spurs’ matches this season.

Speaking after the game the Carabao Cup match, Postecoglou said in his press conference: “What I didn’t want was us pushing guys over the edge today, that’s why we took Destiny off at half-time as well.

“We already had a couple of injuries, and I had some pretty good players on the bench that I thought could make an impact.”

Tottenham lose Wilson Odobert to ‘significant’ injury

Tottenham did lose a key player to injury though as Wilson Odobert was forced off with a hamstring injury in the first-half.

Postecoglou has revealed that the injury looks to be ‘significant’ and they may have just lost the French winger for a while. “Hard to say, Wilson looked fairly significant, so we’ll just wait and see,” said the Spurs boss.

The Lilywhites are still well equipped for his injury with Kulusevski, Johnson, Heung-min Son and even Mikey Moore all options to replace him.
