At their best, the Lilywhites look like they are unstoppable, but the other side of it is that they can often slip into bad habits.
Collapsing leads and bizarre results can often leave Tottenham fans frustrated that they are brilliant in one moment and poor in another.
The most recent example of this is in the Premier League, where the side gave away the first win of the season to Crystal Palace before hammering top-four rivals Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It makes it tough to predict what could be the end result of the season for Ange Postecoglou, but Ally McCoist believes it could be an exciting one.

With inconsistency the main issue plaguing Tottenham, there is uncertainty over whether the side could earn a top-four place or finish in mid-table, while a trophy is also in their sights.
It was something that former player Ally McCoist was rather bullish on when he spoke about Spurs on TalkSPORT.
He said: “I actually think they have [the consistency to reach the top four], I think they have the potential to have the consistency of the top four but they don’t have the consistency for anything else.
“I’ve gone on record to say they could win a cup this year, absolutely, because they’ve got the consistency to win a cup.
“They’ve got a level of performance in them where they could beat anybody. That’s what I think, I really do genuinely think on their day, all things firing on all cylinders, Spurs can beat anybody.
“But they don’t have any sort of level of consistency required to challenge for the title but I think they’ve got enough consistency that they could challenge for top four.”
It brings about an exciting potential for the rest of the campaign, with Tottenham on the charge for both a top-four finish and a potential cup win.
What is success for Tottenham this season?
A difficult question to answer when it comes to Tottenham surrounds what success looks like for the side this season.
With it being Postecoglou’s second season in charge, there is an expectation that the side will have to at least show some improvement.
With a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League last season, the natural move would be to improve up into the top four.
Deep runs into the cup competitions will be wanted as a minimum too, though a trophy will be the ultimate aim.
It’s not time to discuss getting that elusive cup competition over the line though, as ultimately there is still a growing process with this group of Tottenham players.
There are plenty of young stars still looking to find their way at the very top and with more games on the horizon, Postecoglou will have to do well to manage against injuries.
Ultimately, success will likely be viewed as progression on the pitch that will ideally reflect in achievements by the end.
