Tottenham are back in Champions League action on Tuesday night, and during commentary for the game, Alan Shearer has given his thoughts on the recent big news off the pitch at the club.

It was announced during the international break that Daniel Levy was departing from his role of chairman at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium after 25 years of service to the club.

Depending on who you talk to, there will be different verdicts on how his exit came about. Gary Lineker believes Levy didn’t know the change was coming.

It has been reported that having the Englishman at the helm of Spurs was starting to hurt them in the transfer market. Levy was reportedly difficult to negotiate with for other Premier League sides.

The decision has left many intrigued about what the future looks like at the club, with supporters seeming to take the side of that it is a good thing he has left.

Shearer seemed to echo those thoughts during commentary for Spurs’ first Champions League game against Villarreal on Amazon Prime.

The former striker believes it was the right time for Levy to depart, saying:

“I think it’s probably the right time. I think the Tottenham fans would say thank you, but it was the right time to move on and change.”

Spurs make good start to life after Daniel Levy

Despite all the talk off the pitch about the state of Spurs, for Thomas Frank it was business as usual in their last Premier League game.

The first without Levy at the helm, Spurs won 3-0 against arch-rivals West Ham, with some of his final signings having a significant say on the outcome.

Xavi Simons impressed greatly on his debut, while Mohammed Kudus dealt with the hostilities from his former supporters to put in an excellent display.

The hope is that they can continue that form into their European opener, getting off to the best possible start in the first few minutes with the first goal of the game.
