Tottenham Hotspur’s season continues to have more ups and downs than a rollercoaster as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday.

Spurs would have fancied their chances of extending their winning run in the competition after picking up wins against Manchester City and Aston Villa last week.

However, Tottenham were poor for large parts of their game against Galatasaray, conceding after just six minutes and finishing the game with ten men.

Will Lankshear had an eventful day to say the least, getting another start in the Europa League and paying back Ange Postecoglou’s trust with the equaliser.

The 19-year-old scored his first Spurs senior goal in the 19th minute, tapping home following great work from Brennan Johnson and Archie Gray.

However, Tottenham went on to concede twice more and, in the 60th minute, Lankshear was sent off after being shown a second yellow card.

Lankshear went down and appealed for a foul which he didn’t get, after which he got up and made a rash tackle on Gabriel Sara to earn a second booking.

Tottenham fans happy to cut Will Lankshear some slack

While Tottenham fans acknowledged that Lankshear’s sending-off was silly, they cut him some slack considering his age and inexperience.

They also took into account the fact he wasn’t given a free kick after being dumped on the floor, and his more experienced teammates struggling all around him.

Glenn Hoddle says Will Lankshear ‘lost his head’

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle commented on Lankshear’s sending-off on TNT Sports just after the incident.

He speculated that the youngster’s rash tackle was “born out of frustration” after being brought down and not awarded a free kick.

Hoddle also claimed Lankshear “lost his head” and momentarily forgot he had already been booked.

“I think it was born out of frustration,” Hoddle said on TNT Sports (7/11/2024, 7:08pm).

“As a youngster, Will Lankshear has lost his head and forgot he is on a yellow.”

Hoddle, Joe Cole and Peter Crouch sung Lankshear’s praises earlier on in the evening after he scored.
