Tottenham supporters were left frustrated with their side’s performance away at Galatasaray in the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were sloppy at the back as they conceded three goals, though in truth it could’ve been much more.

Some big moments denied the home team from landing more as Will Lankshear and Dominic Solanke made the tie much closer than it appeared.

Those struggles in performances were clear for some of the youngsters, with Lucas Bergvall coming in for some particular criticism from Tottenham fans.

Tottenham fans react to Lucas Bergvall performance vs Galatasaray

One star who struggled at RAMS Park was Lucas Bergvall as the Swedish midfielder was caught on the ball several times.

The physicality of the Galatasaray players made it especially tough for the Tottenham midfielder, prompting some supporters to complete a loan deal for more experience in the January transfer window.

One fan said on social media: “Has to be said that Bergvall has looked way off it in p much every Europa game so far. A loan sounds like a good idea.” Another added: “Bergvall needs to go on loan I’m sorry.”

“Yes he’s young, but we need to have uncomfortable conversations about Bergvall,” one Tottenham fan suggested.

“Bergvall out of his depth here,” another frustrated spectator added.

“I’m not quite sure Bergvall looks ready for regular first team football yet,” another fan suggested, while someone else added “I love Lucas Bergvall, he’s a big talent. But he’s being eaten under this pressure. The game unfortunately proved to be too big for him.”

Lucas Bergvall struggles must be put in context

The match was a tough one for Bergvall, but it must be put into a bit of context around the youngster and his place.

It was a difficult match for the midfielder to be thrown into but it’s clear that Postecoglou has wanted to test the Tottenham starlet’s ability in a tough setting.

The 18-year-old wasn’t the only one to struggle though as his senior teammates James Maddison and Yves Bissouma faced similar difficulties.

There is a wider view on Bergvall in that he isn’t just a player for performing now, but he is also a project for the future.

It remains to be seen whether that future at Spurs is in the first team or if there will be a loan in the months ahead to gain key experience.
