Tottenham Hotspur fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

Spurs fancied their chances of getting one over on their depleted arch-rivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it wasn’t to be.

Tottenham were undone on set pieces once again, and were wasteful once again. They had 15 chances, five of which were on target, and couldn’t score.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have fewer chances, but they made theirs count – with a little help from Spurs of course.

Bukayo Saka delivered an in-swinging corner that Gabriel Magalhaes rose to head home, with Guglielmo Vicario boxed in.

After the game, Gary Neville issued a scathing verdict on one of the Tottenham players, saying he didn’t like what he’s seeing from the Spurs man.

Gary Neville not impressed with Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario

The player in question is Guglielmo Vicario, who flattered to deceive for Spurs once again.

The goalkeeper wasn’t necessarily to blame for the goal, but he doesn’t exactly inspire confidence from set pieces.

Neville said on The Gary Neville Podcast after the match: “The idea that he gets involved all the time, he is always sort of like, he’s pontificating.

“Vicario, he is always whinging before the ball comes in, he has his arms everywhere, he’s frantic. I don’t want to see that.”

Ange Postecoglou needs to think about upgrading his goalkeeper next year

Vicario is not a bad goalkeeper by any means, and does a lot of good for Tottenham. For instance, he is a great shot-stopper.

However, it has become evident that he’s not great at commanding his box or inspiring confidence when it comes to set pieces.

It’s becoming almost routine now for opposition players to get physical in the box and they get their rewards at Spurs’ expense far too often.

Put simply, teams now know how to target him from corners. Everyone knows this is a weakness of his.

With that in mind, unless there’s some clear improvement from Vicario in the coming months, Ange Postecoglou should consider looking for a more complete goalkeeper.
