The Italian media have been discussing Fraser Forster’s display against AS Roma as the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper had a busy evening.
Tottenham were pegged back late on against Roma as Matts Hummels rescued a point for the Italian side. The Giallorossi earned a 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a stoppage-time equaliser from the veteran German defender.
The draw with Claudio Ranieri’s side leaves them in ninth place and just behind Rangers who moved above them into the top eight, with a trip to Ibrox up next in the Europa League.
After the match, the Italian media reviewed Forster’s display as he stepped in to replace the injured Guglielmo Vicario for the first time since fracturing his ankle.

The Italian media impressed by Fraser Forster vs Roma
Fraser Forster’s performance against Roma has earned him some strong reviews from the Italian media. Despite conceding twice against the Italians, the 36-year-old made some key saves to deny the Giallorossi.
Postecoglou looks set to trust Forster after Vicario suffered a fractured ankle which looks set to keep him out of action for several months. The Premier League veteran produced some impressive moments against Roma and the Italian media have given their verdict on his display.
TUTTOmercatoWEB gave him 7/10 and wrote: “Forced change between the posts for Vicario’s injuries, he closes the door on Dybala. He stretches out without reaching Ndicka’s header. Miraculous on Mancini, he bows to Hummels.” Eurosport rated him 6.5/10 and were very impressed by some of his saves: “He does what he can to protect his own goal. He is monstrous at the end on Mancini, but he can do nothing shortly after on Hummels’ winning strike.”
The highest rating for Foster came from Sky Sport who gave him 7.5/10. Calcio Mercato also rated his display 6.5/10: “Forster denied Dybala the goal with a miracle in the first half. He also denied Mancini for 2-2 with another miracle.”
What Ange Postecoglou said about Fraser Forster vs Roma
Ange Postecoglou has backed Forster after the game by blasting claims that he is lacking in confidence. The Australian manager believes that Forster did his job in helping Spurs’ bid to win the match and blamed his side’s inability to kill off the game before the second goal went in.
Postecoglou told the media: “I don’t think he’s lacking in confidence. He is an experienced guy and has probably thought to himself that, that is why he is there, if needed to come in and be that reliable goalkeeper for us. It’s helped he’s already played this year, it wasn’t his first game.
“He’s played his part tonight and it’s just disappointing we weren’t able to capitalise on the football we played to get the three points. I don’t think he’s lacking in confidence, but always good for him to least pull off a couple of big saves for us tonight and get him back into he group.”
