Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is on the brink after a sickening defeat to Newcastle United.

You have to go back to the end of December to find a Tottenham win in the Premier League, and surely the sack is now imminent for the Danish manager.

Things haven’t gone according to plan since Frank left Brentford behind and decided to take on the much bigger challenge of continuing the success of Ange Postecoglou, who won the Europa League last season.

The Aussie was denied the chance to build on his silverware-winning season, with a 17th-place finish deemed unacceptable by the club’s hierarchy.

Now, Spurs are perilously close to the relegation zone, with Leeds going above the North Londoners with their point at Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Eddie Howe discusses Thomas Frank’s future after his team win

It was a vitally important game for both teams at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but once again, a drab Spurs performance left the team languishing towards the bottom of the table.

Tottenham fans turned on Frank during the game after some chants regarding his future in North London rang around the stadium, Eddie Howe was asked about his opposite number.

He said in his press conference: “The fine reality of this job is that it could by any one of us at any moment. It’s not nice. When you look at Tottenham and the size of their injury list, you can see how difficult it is. Thomas is an outstanding manager and I hope he gets time to show it.”

Frank now has some time to stew on this latest defeat, with Tottenham’s next game coming later this month in the North London-derby against title-chasing Arsenal.

Tottenham can’t give Frank the Arsenal game

The boos said it all against Newcastle. Howe is in the manager’s union, so it’s only natural that he will have sympathy for a fellow incumbent.

Quite simply, Tottenham are on a hiding to nothing if they give Frank the derby, and although defeat to Arsenal is very likely anyway, a new manager bounce could make all the difference.

Tottenham have given Frank way more time than they probably should have done and if Forest win tomorrow night, the Reds will also pull level on points with Spurs.

This run of form is just unacceptable for a club the size of Tottenham and frankly, Thomas has run out of time and chances to continue in his role.
