Tim Sherwood has slammed Tottenham captain Cristian Romero and has not held back in his criticism of the Argentina defender.

The former Spurs boss is not known to be someone who pulls his punches while doing punditry and made no exception for the 27-year-old.

Romero has had a topsy-turvy season for Tottenham and seems to be making the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Cristian Romero should be stripped of the Tottenham captaincy after this…

He has let his team down way too many times! 😠

Tim Sherwood slams Cristian Romero’s lack of discipline

Sherwood was in the Premier League Productions studio ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Newcastle.

He and Owen Hargreaves were discussing how the match would pan out, given the Lilywhites’ struggles in the English top flight.

While they have done well in the Champions League, they were 15th in the Premier League table going into that game.

Romero was ruled out for that one as he picked up a red card in the 2-0 defeat against Manchester United.

The Argentine lunged into the Brazilian and made contact with his foot, leading to the midfielder falling to the floor in pain.

Sherwood believed that Tottenham would not be missing Romero against Newcastle, and was also not a fan of what he had been posting on social media, calling out the owners for poor squad building.

He said: “Cristian Romero is missing. I don’t think he will be much of a miss. He’s more of a liability than a strength. He lets you down time and time again. He comes out against the club. Talking on Twitter time and time again.”

Is Romero in his last season at Tottenham?

The centre-back appears to be burning all his bridges at the club despite being the captain.

While fans will love him calling out the hierarchy, it is not something that is expected of a captain.

Also, his getting sent off twice this season shows that he may not be as good as he was until last season, and he seems to be costing his team more points than he is winning.

Romero was linked with a move to Spain last summer, and everything he has done this season suggests that his agents could very well be on the phone with Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid already.

Spurs may also be open to cashing in on him, as his conduct has not been the best, and they can fetch a decent fee for his sale.
