Dominic Solanke’s display vs Bournemouth left the media in agreement as Tottenham star fails to register a single attempt on target

Dominic Solanke did not have a happy return to Bournemouth as Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 1-0 by his former club.

Spurs limped to a defeat on the South Coast as Dean Huijsen’s first-half header proved to be the winner as the young defender netted his first Premier League goal. Ange Postecoglou was missing several key players, however, his team looked well off it once again as the pressure mounts on the Australian manager.

The travelling supporters booed Postecoglou after the match as the Tottenham boss tried to apologise to them. It was a night to forget for him and that also applies to Solanke who looked well off the pace against the Cherries.

How the media rated Dominic Solanke’s display vs Bournemouth

The media have all been slamming Dominic Solanke’s performance against Bournemouth as the striker produced a lacklustre showing. He failed to register a single shot on target against his former side as Tottenham drew a blank.

The 27-year-old is only just back from illness and he played like that was the case. Postecoglou was forced to start him though as he has no suitable alternatives to the England international, with Richarlison out with a hamstring injury.

Football.London handed him 4/10: “Fired over under pressure early in the game and sent a header wide from a corner later in the first half. Had so little to work with for much of the match.”

It was another 4/10 from the Daily Express who wrote: “Started brightly and was making plenty of runs in behind the Bournemouth backline, but on a rare off day in front of goal, the striker’s finishing was wayward. Twice in quick succession the ex-Cherries star ought to have done better with chances against his former side. Pocketed by Man of the Match Huijsen in the second half.”

Evening Standard gave him 5/10: “Blazed an early shot over following a mistake by Huijsen in his only big opening of the game.”

Solanke once again put in a shift for Tottenham up front, however, he struggled when it came to threatening the Bournemouth goal. Three attempts and none on target shows just how badly he struggled at the Vitality Stadium.

There is certainly the case to be made that he was left isolated up top and didn’t get a great deal of service, but in the chances that did come his way, he disappointed.
