Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive evening on Wednesday, beating Scottish side Heart of Midlothian 5-1 in a pre-season friendly.

Tottenham Hotspur are back in action and ramping up the pre-season preparations ahead of another Premier League campaign.

Wednesday night saw Spurs play a first pre-season friendly of the summer and it ended up being a comfortable win.

Brennan Johnson put Tottenham ahead in the first half before Lawrence Shankland equalised for Hearts.

Tottenham kicked on from there though as Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore both found the net.

Djed Spence added a fourth as he fights for his Tottenham future, before Lewis Neilson’s own goal rounded off the scoring.

A win and five goals is an ideal start to the pre-season schedule for Tottenham – especially with some first-team players still on breaks after international tournaments.

Ange Postecoglou on Will Lankshear

This is a great chance for young talents and fringe players to try and make an impact.

Striker Lankshear did just that, slotting home from inside the box after being played in on goal by Spence.

The 19-year-old joined Tottenham from Sheffield United in 2022 having previously been on the books at Arsenal.

Lankshear has shown promise in the Spurs ranks, smashing 23 goals in 23 Premier League 2 games last season.

Tottenham seem convinced that Lankshear can be a real talent for the future and he showed exactly why against Hearts.

Ange Postecoglou has now commented on Lankshear’s display, telling Football London that he feels the striker has ‘looked bright’ in training of late.

Postecoglou added that Lankshear is coming off a ‘very good’ season and he deserves to be rewards with some first-team chances this summer.

“He was good. We kind of brought him in in this last week and yeah he has looked bright in training. He works hard and I thought he took his goal well tonight. He had a very good year last year so it’s about rewarding that,” said Postecoglou.

“With all the young guys it’s about the game doesn’t stand still. Whatever you did last year it’s about coming in this year and making an impact. Our two new signings are both 18 years old so there’s a measure there for our 18 year olds. Just because you are here doesn’t mean you get any kind of advantage apart from the fact you are in front of us every day. He deserved his chance today, trained well, took his goal well and I’m pleased for him,” he added.

Lankshear making progress

Tottenham are in the market for attacking additions this summer but Lankshear is doing his best to show that he deserves a chance himself.

Throwing Lankshear into Premier League action seems unlikely but he will be aiming for the stars – especially having suggested that he is similar to Harry Kane.

Middlesbrough – managed by former Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick – have been linked with a move to sign Lankshear this summer.

That could only be a loan now though as Lankshear signed a new five-year contract with Tottenham last weekend.

All Lankshear can do is keep scoring goals and prove himself to Postecoglou; he certainly made a great start to that on Wednesday night.
