Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a successful summer clear out as they managed to offload the majority of their deadwood.

Spurs moved on eight players through permanent deals whilst a further six left on loan as Ange Postecoglou overhauled his squad.

Giovani Lo Celso, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Emerson Royal were among the biggest names to leave N17.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Yang Min-hyeok were added to the squad.

However, there was one player who failed to secure a move away and as the final few windows across Europe close, he now looks set to stay.

Sergio Reguilon set to stay at Spurs

Sergio Reguilon is set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur as the transfer window draws to a close to in Turkey, according to Alasdair Gold via YouTube.

The defender could still end up leaving with interest from Turkish clubs, however, time is running out for a deal to happen.

Gold said on his YouTube channel: “Sergio Reguilon, there’s two more days for something to happen with him. The Turkish window closes on the 13th [September].

“He could still end up in Turkey, Besiktas were linked with him, Fenerbahce and Mourinho obviously signed him for Spurs, you never know.

The Tottenham journalist then discussed the possibility of the Spaniard being reintegrated back into Postecoglou’s squad.

“Would it be the worst thing if he sat around for the squad [at Tottenham]? Obviously he’s not in the Europa League squad,” Gold added.

“He could be in the Premier League squad, there’s space for him in that. Especially as we know left-back is an area where there aren’t masses of people, it would then allow Ben Davies to be a left sided centre back cover.

“He might say to him [Reguilon] you’re not going to be in match day squads unless we have an injury situation, then we’ll have a chat.”

Could Sergio Reguilon be useful for Tottenham?

Following Alasdair Gold’s comments about the possibility of Reguilon being brought back into the Tottenham squad, this could certainly become an interesting talking point.

Whilst it is clear Postecoglou does not favour the defender, given the sheer volume of games Spurs are set to play, an extra body like Reguilon could become useful.

However, there remains big question marks as to whether the 27-year-old is good enough for this level. Reguilon did impress on loan at Brentford and Man United last season, but doesn’t appear to be the right fit for Ange Ball.
