Tottenham Hotspur look set to sign a new striker for Ange Postecoglou during the summer transfer window.

Richarlison is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham amid claims Spurs are ready to listen to offers for the Brazilian.

The 26-year-old recently addressed the ‘fake news’ surrounding his future but Tottenham continue to be linked with moves for a new forward.

Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez is among the club’s top targets but Ivan Toney is also of interest.

The Spurs News was told just last month that Tottenham would be willing to pay £40 million to land Toney this summer.

Now, club expert Paul O Keefe has shared an update on Spurs’ interest in Toney.

Tottenham waiting for Toney asking price to drop

Toney looks destined to leave the Gtech Community Stadium this summer after repeatedly expressing his desire for a fresh challenge.

With just a year left on his current contract with the Bees, many clubs will be hoping for a cut-price deal to sign the England star.

It would certainly appear that is the case when it comes to Tottenham’s interest, with O Keefe claiming Brentford’s asking price is currently too high.

When quizzed on Spurs’ pursuit of Toney on X, he wrote: “There is interest yes but from what I understand it needs to be at a fee acceptable to Spurs.

“Word is it’s currently too high but things can change.”

What Toney has said about former Spurs strikers

While speaking to Kick Game back in June last year, Toney picked a couple of familiar names when asked for his favourite strikers of all time.

“Jermain Defoe. Half a yard, shoot on goal, nine times out 10 it’s a goal. He’s one,” the Bees star said.

“Berbatov,” he added. “I like Berbatov. His first touch was the best touch I’ve ever seen.”

He was also jokingly asked if he wanted to join Spurs after his comments on Defoe and Berbatov, to which he responded: “They have got one of the best strikers [Harry Kane] already.”

Of course, plenty has changed at Tottenham since this interview after Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich last summer.

Despite Heung-min Son’s 17 Premier League goals last season, Postecoglou is evidently keen to replace Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer.
