West Ham United are making it clear to both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United that Mateus Fernandes will be sold for the highest bid.

Tottenham are among the clubs making a strong push to sign the Portuguese midfielder this summer, but face strong competition to secure his signature.

Roberto De Zerbi is looking to reshape Spurs’ midfield options, and the North London club are working on deals for both him and Sandro Tonali.

Ahead of Spurs’ move to sign the 22-year-old, West Ham have informed Spurs of their chances of getting him, having also taken Mohammed Kudus from them last summer.

West Ham happy to sell Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham

West Ham United are more than happy to sell Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur as long as they stump up the most money, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs are one of the Hammers’ biggest rivals, but after being relegated to the Championship, they could be forced into selling them yet another star player.

Last summer, it was Kudus, and now it could be their extremely promising midfield talent, Fernandes, although United are still in the race.

Speaking about the situation on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Let me be clear on this. West Ham will sell Mateus Fernandes to the club offering the best money. So West Ham don’t care if it’s Tottenham, Man United, Real Madrid or whoever.

“Manchester United may have been in talks with the agent of the player for a long time, and Manchester United also had direct contact with West Ham.

“So May United are working hard on this deal for Mateus Fernandes, and that remains my information. May United are there.

“Tottenham are also there because Tottenham are pushing in a separate story compared to Sandro Tonali. Sandro Tonali is still there. So Tottenham are working on it, and Manchester United are working on it.

“Real Madrid, the name was indicated by Jose Mourinho, but at the moment is still not advancing. But West Ham communicated to those close to the player to bring us the proposals.”

West Ham United want more than £85 million for Mateus Fernandes

West Ham United are hopeful that with two major Premier League clubs being in the race for Fernandes, they will be able to collect more than £85 million for him.

“We start at £85 million. That’s the starting price. West Ham obviously hopes to get more than this with so many clubs involved,” added the Italian journalist.

“So the idea at West Ham is to get the best transfer fee possible for Mateus Fernandes. This is going to be the way to sign the player. Then obviously the player can have preferences.

“The player can have the opportunity on one side, a very good contract on the other side, and Champions League football.

“So every club can present their proposal for their project. But for West Ham, in a very clear way, the best offer will win. That’s what West Ham will do with Mateus Fernandes.”

Should Spurs be able to complete a deal for Fernandes and Tonali, they could have the best midfield pivot in the Premier League next season.
