Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly still interested in signing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist has provided an update on Tottenham’s search for a new forward player on The Daily Briefing and namedropped the Inter star.

Spurs are on the lookout for a new attacker after losing their talisman Harry Kane over the weekend.

The 30-year-old completed a switch to Bayern Munich on Saturday and made his debut in the DFL Supercup that evening.

It’s left Spurs searching for reinforcements with just two weeks left in the current transfer window. The likes of Gent’s Gift Orban, Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson and Lille’s Jonathan David have been linked.

And Jacobs claims that Spurs still like one of their long-standing turrets Lautaro Martinez.

Tottenham still like Martinez

Writing in his latest column in the Daily Briefing, Jacobs claimed that Spurs are still keen on Martinez. But Inter are reluctant to sell their star man.

He wrote: “Spurs also like Lautaro Martinez, but Inter simply don’t want to sell.”

Martinez has starred for the Nerazzurri over the past few years and has been long-linked with a move to England.

The 25-year-old helped Inter to a Champions League final last season while he was also part of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in Qatar.

His performances have even led to Chelsea legend Joe Cole comparing him to a ‘prime’ Luis Suarez.

“This is the best Argentina team I’ve seen for at least 15 years. Martinez is so good for Messi because he does the work of two men,” Cole told ITV back in November 2022.

“He’s like prime Suarez, running the channels. Messi would go and spend a spell on the right, then ghost into the ten and plays on instinct. Outstanding.” as quoted by TBR Football

A move for Martinez seems highly unlikely at this stage given Inter are in no rush to sell the striker.

He also reached a Champions League final with Simone Inzaghi’s men last time out and it’s difficult to see him giving up European football to move to Spurs.
