Tottenham now unlikely to sign £30m player who’s wanted by Ange Postecoglou

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has suggested Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi this summer.

Kyogo is one of many Celtic players to have been linked with a move to Spurs since Ange Postecoglou switched Glasgow for North London.

The Aussie boss certainly got the best out of the Japanese striker as he netted a total of 34 goals in Celtic’s treble-winning side last season.

Reports have suggested that Postecoglou is keen to reunite with Kyogo in North London, with The Scottish Sun previously claiming that Spurs were poised to bid for the striker. 

The likes of Reo Hatate and Jota have also both been linked with a switch to Tottenham. But Bridge has told Sky Sports News that moves for Kyogo, Hatate and Jota are not currently on the cards at Spurs. 

Tottenham unlikely to move for Kyogo

Bridge claims that while Kyogo, Hatate and Jota will be upset about the departure of Postecoglou, they are unlikely to follow him to Tottenham at this moment in time. 

“My understanding is that’s currently not on the agenda,” he wrote. “Postecoglou’s knowledge of the Asian market played a key role in Celtic’s brilliant first season under the Australian. It ultimately blew their rivals away.

“Three of his very successful signings – Kyogo, Reo Hatate and Jota – will be upset about his departure and all look more than capable of playing at a higher level, but whether they are the required level for Tottenham is another question.”

Of course, Jota is nearing a switch to Saudi Arabia as he looks set to join Al-Ittihad. 

But both Kyogo and Hatate have been touted as targets for Spurs as Postecoglou aims to build a side in his image. 

While both players would have been welcome additions to the current Spurs side, the north Londoners will likely focus on their backline and outgoings moving forward. 

Tottenham have already snapped up a creative midfielder in James Maddison and it seems unlikely that Harry Kane will be on the move as things stand. 

Celtic would reportedly demand around £30 million for Kyogo this summer and it would make little sense for Spurs to splash a sizeable chunk of their budget on another forward player, especially with Manor Solomon nearing a switch to North London.
