Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly continuing talks with Bayer Leverkusen over signing Edmond Tapsoba this summer.

That’s according to The Evening Standard, which claims that Spurs are in the market for a centre-back.

Tottenham look set to wrap up a deal to sign James Maddison in the coming days after announcing the signing of Italian shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario yesterday.

Indeed, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims the Leicester City star is set to undergo his medical at Hotspur Way on Wednesday.

Spurs will now shift their focus to their backline as they bid to bring in a new central defender before pre-season.

Edmond Tapsoba is a name that has been heavily linked with a move to north London over the past couple of weeks.

Indeed, The Daily Mail has even claimed that Tapsoba is keen on a switch to Tottenham this summer.

The 24-year-old defender has impressed in the Bundesliga and it seems that Spurs are pressing ahead with their attempts to sign him.

Spurs continue Tapsoba talks

The Evening Standard claims talks between Leverkusen and Tottenham are continuing over the signing of Tapsoba.

Spurs are also interested in re-signing Clement Lenglet from Barcelona after his loan spell at the club last season.

The Spurs News View

Tottenham seem to be acting decisively this summer and that should encourage fans who have been left frustrated by their approach in recent years.

It’s no secret that Spurs struggled defensively last season as they shipped a staggering total of 63 goals in the Premier League.

The likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are facing uncertain futures at the club, while it remains unclear whether Spurs will move to sign Lenglet permanently.

Tapsoba would represent a significant upgrade on Tottenham’s current options and the £47 million-rated defender would be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero.

Of course, much will depend on outgoings as Tottenham look to trim a bloated squad ahead of the new season. But it would be refreshing to see Spurs move for the likes of Tapsoba before shifting their current options at centre-back.
