Tottenham Hotspur do not expect their search for a new centre-back to go on for much longer.
That’s according to 90 Min, with the outlet claiming that Spurs are also closing in on a deal to sign Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers.
Spurs have enjoyed an encouraging start to the transfer window as they have already moved to bring in Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon.
Ange Postecoglou will be keen to re-shape his squad over the coming weeks and Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements at centre-back.
Yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to West Ham only further highlighted the need for a couple of top-quality defenders, with both Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba heavily linked.
And it seems that after bringing in Ashley Phillips, Spurs’ search for a new first-team centre-back could come to an end soon.

Tottenham close to ending search for new centre-back
90 Min reports that Spurs have been locked in talks over deals for Bayer Leverkusen’s Tapsoba and Wolfsburg defender Van de Ven.
It’s noted that Tottenham are attempting to land Tapsoba for a reduced fee, with the 24-year-old said to be the top target. As for Van de Ven, talks over the signing of the Dutchman are more advanced and he’s keen to make the switch to North London.
The outlet claims that sources believe Spurs do not expect the search for a new centre-back to ‘go on for much longer’.
Postecoglou has already stated his desire to bring in a new centre-back as soon as possible.
“Yeah, I think that’s definitely our intention, absolutely,” he told Football.London. “We’ve been working on it for a while and we’ll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.”

The Spurs News View
Both Tapsoba and Van de Ven would be brilliant additions to the current Spurs squad.
It’s no secret that Tottenham need an ideal partner for Cristian Romero, especially with Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga all facing uncertain futures.
It would have been ideal for Postecoglou to get a new centre-back in before the pre-season tour. But it’s encouraging to hear that Spurs are confident the search won’t go on for much longer.
