Tottenham Hotspur are making it clear that they want to sign both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi is eager to transform his midfield and could smash the North London club’s transfer record, not once, but twice.

👀 I bet you CAN’T name a better midfield pairing in the Premier League than Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes…

Midfield was an area of concern for the Lilywhites last term, with Joao Palhinha becoming one of the main players in the middle for the team.

Spurs are now locked in talks with Newcastle United and West Ham United over deals for both players and could soon pull off a huge surprise.

Tottenham want both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes

Tottenham Hotspur’s plan is to sign both Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, according to Fabrizio Romano.

But in the case of Tonali, Spurs are the only club really working on a deal for the Italian, despite interest from Man City and Arsenal.

Speaking about potential rivals for Tonali’s signature, Romano told his YouTube channel: “I would say the midfield battle because Sandro Tonali, I keep receiving many people mentioning Arsenal, many people mentioning Manchester City, what’s going on with Tonali? Is he going to Tottenham as you said or not? I stand by my news from last week out of nowhere, exclusive news. Sandro Tonali and Tottenham, full stop.

“So today I keep mentioning Tottenham and Tonali. I remain in my position. Tottenham are working on the deal to sign Sandro Tonali, and that remains the case. Deal on Tottenham and Tonali. I’m not coming here mentioning Man City. I’m not coming here to mention other clubs.

“Since I told you Tonali to Tottenham last week, the other clubs are no longer mentioned, by myself at least.”

Manchester United remain in the race for Mateus Fernandes

In the case of Fernandes, Tottenham are not alone, as Manchester United remain in the race for the Portuguese midfielder.

The 21-year-old has already agreed to join Spurs, according to Matteo Moretto, and the Lilywhites are now pushing to get the deal done.

“Then, Mateus Fernandes, which is one of the most intriguing cases in recent months on the market. Why? Because the player will go to who’s offering one more in terms of club. So West Ham are ready to accept the best proposal,” added the Italian journalist.

“Then it’s going to be on the player, but both Tottenham and Manchester United behind the scenes are working on this.

“Tottenham want Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, it’s not one or the other. Both clubs are talking to West Ham. So let’s follow the situation closely because Tottenham are pushing to close, but on the other side, Manchester United are still there for Mateus.”

But if Spurs could pull off deals to sign the midfield duo, they could have one of the best pairings in world football.
