Tottenham are set to make a decision over the future of club captain Heung-Min Son as he enters the final year of his contract.
Son, 32, has been a consistent performer for Spurs ever since he joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for a fee worth roughly £22million.
The South Korean international has become a superstar in the nine years since then, scoring 162 goals and assisting 84 in 408 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions.
Son’s raw pace and instincts in front of goal made him a threat for any opposition defender and his partnership with Harry Kane only took the Lilywhites to new heights.
A Premier League title challenge and a Champions League final marked the levels that the North London club reached in their most successful period.
All that has been missing so far for the forward is a trophy to show for it, with current Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou working towards that aim.
With Son in his ranks, there’s certainly a better chance of achieving that, though there are naturally question marks over the captain’s future, with under one year remaining on his contract.

Tottenham set to trigger Heung-Min Son contract extension
With Son now in his final year under contract, Tottenham face some questions over the future of the forward.
However, for the time being, it seems as though the 32-year-old is set for another extended stay beyond the next year.
That’s because, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Spurs are set to trigger a contract extension for Son this summer.
It’s a move that will add another 12 months to his deal, keeping him at Hotspur Way until at least 2026.
At that point, it will bring about more decisions to be made over his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but for now, it adds further security to a key player for the squad.
Heung-Min Son future
By the time Son reaches the end of his current contract at Tottenham, he will be 34 years old and nearing the tail end of his career.
That will lead to key decisions over a new contract, the wages that can be offered and a potential succession plan.
At the very least it appears as though the South Korean star will reach the ten-year mark with the club and be eligible for a testimonial by next summer.
That, and his ability to still play at a high level, should be celebrated while it still can be as stars continue to come and go for the Lilywhites.
Anything beyond that will be decided when the time is right.
