Tottenham Hotspur may have just dropped a significant hint that a new centre-back will be signed soon.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Genoa’s Radu Dragusin, with the Romanian already agreeing to a move to North London.

Bayern Munich have also expressed an interest in Dragusin, as well as Serie A champions Napoli.

The Evening Standard claims the Genoa star is keen on a Premier League move, putting Tottenham in pole position to land him.

And as talks between Genoa and Spurs continue over a fee for Dragusin, Tottenham may have just dropped a strong hint that a new centre-back signing is imminent, with Ashley Phillips completing a loan move to the Championship.

Tottenham drop strong hint that new centre-back will be signed soon

Tottenham have announced that youngster Ashley Phillips has joined Plymouth Argyle on loan until the end of the season.

While Phillips is yet to make an appearance for Spurs after signing for the club over the summer, the 18-year-old has regularly featured on the bench due to the ongoing injury crisis at centre-back.

Micky van de Ven returned to the squad last week after missing nine league games with a hamstring injury he picked up in November.

Cristian Romero is currently sidelined with a hamstring issue, while Ben Davies suffered the same fate in the 1-0 win over Burnley on Friday.

With all that in mind, it’s difficult to see Postecoglou allowing Phillips to leave on loan unless the club were close to landing a new centre-back.

Eric Dier has also been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich and The Guardian claims he has already agreed terms with the Bundesliga champions.

Should Dier follow Phillips out the door, that would leave Postecoglou alarmingly short of options in central defence, unless a fresh signing in the position is imminent.

Talks over a deal to sign Dragusin have dragged on for days now and it would be a huge relief to see that one get over the line.
