Tottenham make Adam Wharton a ‘priority target’

Tottenham have made Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton a ‘priority target’ for this summer, according to FlashScore.

The North London club are firmly in the race to sign the 22-year-old, despite Liverpool showing an interest in signing him.

Wharton is right near the top of their list of targets, alongside Tonali, but the England international is the player most want to bring to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Should Roberto De Zerbi’s side be alerted to the possibility of the midfielder being on the move, they could quickly accelerate their interest.

The youngster was not selected by England for the World Cup; therefore, a deal for him could be done in the near future.

Palace value Wharton at around £80 million, according to TEAMTalk, which could actually be good value, given Nottingham Forest want £120 million for Elliot Anderson.

Adam Wharton would be a better signing than Sandro Tonali

The Lilywhites could be forced to move for him instead after Manchester City started talks to sign Tonali, as reported by The Athletic.

Tonali is open to joining Tottenham, but with City now in the hunt to sign him, surely a move to the Etihad Stadium would appeal to him more.

Having to move for Wharton instead could actually be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham, as they could do with a deep-lying playmaker over a midfielder like Tonali.

Wharton is one of the top passing midfielders in the Premier League and, given his age and international status, could be the perfect long-term addition for Spurs’ squad.
