Journalist Matt Law has claimed that Giovani Lo Celso doesn’t want to return to Tottenham Hotspur and thinks he’s likely to move on this summer.

The Telegraph journalist was speaking on the Last Word On Spurs ahead of a crucial summer window at Tottenham.

Spurs announced Ange Postecoglou as their new manager on Tuesday after a lengthy search for Antonio Conte’s permanent replacement.

The Aussie boss will have to quickly make his mind up on a bunch of players at Spurs, with a huge clear out needed this summer.

Giovani Lo Celso is set to return to Tottenham after a season-long loan spell at Villarreal.

The midfielder has impressed in La Liga after also spending the second half of the last campaign at Estadio de la Cerámica.

But his future at Spurs is uncertain after failing to impress Conte and being sent out on loan. And Law has suggested that the 27-year-old is keen to move on from Tottenham over the summer.

Lo Celso wants to leave

The journalist believes that Lo Celso will be sold this summer as the midfielder has little desire to continue at Spurs.

“I think Lo Celso will go and I think he’s had a good loan so they will get some decent money back on Lo Celso, so that makes sense,” Law said.

“I don’t think they see him really doing anything at Spurs and from what I am told he doesn’t really want to come back to Spurs. I think the ship has sailed.”

Lo Celso arrived at Tottenham back in 2019 after a brilliant season in Spain with Real Betis.

The £70,000-a-week midfielder was expected to come in and replace Christian Eriksen as the Dane was running down his contract at the time.

Apart from impressing former boss Jose Mourinho during the second-half of the 2019-20 campaign, it just hasn’t worked out for him at Spurs.

Postecoglou is expected to give his Spurs players a clean slate once he comes through the door, but the Aussie has proven to be a ruthless operator in the transfer market.

He oversaw a huge turnover of players at Celtic and if Lo Celso has decided his future lies elsewhere, Postecoglou doesn’t seem likely to stand in his way.

Spurs have struggled to sell players over the past few years, which has led to expensive signings like Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguilon all heading out on loan.

But it feels vital that Tottenham act ruthlessly this summer as they bid to trim a bloated squad for their new manager.

They shouldn’t face too many issues in terms of finding a potential buyer for Lo Celso given his encouraging form at Villarreal this season.
