Tottenham are pushing hardest to sign £75m player who’s really impressed Gary Lineker this season

Tottenham Hotspur are now pushing hard to potentially bring in another big money central defender in the summer window.

We have already spent big on Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin this season, however, it seems as if we may not be done just there.

This comes amid the belief we are one of two clubs believed to be pushing the hardest for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Tottenham pushing for Branthwaite

According to a report from the Daily Mail, alongside Manchester United, we are the club who have made the most movement over the young defender.

But these are not the only two clubs who are showing an interest with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and even Real Madrid named in the report.

And although it is suggested the Red Devils are keen to bring in two young centre-backs, they have a number of other targets also on their radar.

After all, any potential deal for Branthwaite is going to be costly after the Toffees slapped a reported £75m price tag on his head prior to the January window.

Options for Postecoglou

Adding a player of this potential and price would be a huge addition to the growing options that Ange Postecoglou has to choose from at centre-back.

But you do have to wonder whether it could be one big name too many at the back?

Although it is still very early days, we have already seen Dragusin’s struggles to break the partnership of Van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Unless the club can picture someone like Romero or Van de Ven being prised away from Hotspur Way in the coming years as they continue to impress, then perhaps the Everton star may just provide too much quality cover in one position.

He is a player who has received a lot of high praise with Gary Lineker recently saying: “Possibly a central defender. Branthwaite maybe, if he finishes the season really strongly. There is a possibility in that particular position.”

At just 21 years of age, he is a player who needs to be playing reguarly to continue his development and you do have to wonder what it could mean for him if he was to then become a rotational player.

Of course, he would be a massive addition, but maybe this is money which could be better spent elsewhere.
