Senior figures at Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pushing for the club to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this month.

Spurs have moved swiftly to address two key areas of Ange Postecoglou’s squad in the January window.

Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have already been snapped up, with both players making their debuts in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Tottenham remain in the market for a midfield signing this month though, with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher of interest.

The Telegraph claimed just last week that Postecoglou is eyeing midfield reinforcements after getting deals for Werner and Dragusin over the line.

While it will likely depend on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future, The Northern Echo claims Tottenham’s interest in Kalvin Phillips is ‘growing’.

Senior Tottenham figures pushing for Phillips deal

The Northern Echo reports that Spurs officials have flagged up their interest in Phillips over the weekend.

It comes after Tottenham offloaded Eric Dier to Bayern Munich last week, which has freed up space in their squad.

It’s noted that some senior figures at Spurs are ’championing’ Phillips’ cause and that he features on a list of midfield targets.

Phillips has struggled to make an impact at Manchester City since sealing a £42 million switch to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022.

The 28-year-old scooped a treble with Pep Guardiola’s side last season but made just 12 appearances in the Premier League.

He’s featured just four times in the league so far this term and is yet to start a game, even in Rodri’s absence in November.

The England international looks set to move on this month in search of regular first-team football, with Newcastle United also heavily linked.

As Phillips could be available on a loan deal, this move could make a lot of sense from Tottenham’s point of view.

Phillips has already proven he can play at the top level after an impressive spell at Leeds and his stellar performances at Euro 2020 with England.

Spurs are short in the middle of the park at the moment as Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are away at AFCON 2024.
