‘Quality’ Tottenham star could make shock exit as Turkish giants eye late transfer swoop

The January transfer window has closed in England, but one Tottenham Hotspur star could still exit the club as interest brews from Turkey.

January proved a fairly busy month in north London as Spurs bolstered Ange Postecoglou’s squad with three new faces.

However, there has been some suggestion that the Australian could see one of his midfielders leave before February 9.

Lo Celso could be exit bound

According to a report out of Turkey by outlet Yeni Asir, Galatasaray hold late interest in Giovani Lo Celso ahead of the final days of their transfer window.

The Turkish giants have already collected several former Spurs recruits with Carlos Vinicius, Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier playing alongside Spurs loanee Tanguy Ndombele.

But it seems they are not looking to stop there with their attention now turned to Lo Celso as they look to add to their midfield options.

It would certainly prove a late move for the Argentine who is currently making his return to the fold following a muscle injury.

Lo Celso offers Tottenham depth

It has not exactly been the big-money move to the Premier League which the Argentine may have hoped for, however, he has shown positive signs this season.

Under Postecoglou, Lo Celso has offered Spurs a strong option off the bench and, in the absence of James Maddison, a solid replacement in midfield.

Postecoglou has clearly been impressed with the Argentine’s efforts, too. Following the victory over Bournemouth, he said: “Gio was very good today, not just with his work rate but you could see his quality on the ball. His passes through and the one through to Sonny was outstanding.”

The 27-year-old has been able to provide Spurs with two goals and two assists in the Premier League, despite his limited minutes.

And despite having his own injury issues this term, a move following the closure of the English transfer market could prove a big risk.

There is just over one year remaining on Lo Celso’s deal, so perhaps a move in the summer would suit Spurs.

But allowing him to leave before the end of the week, without the ability to replace him, does not feel like a move which would benefit Spurs in the slightest.
