Jermaine Jenas believes Cristian Romero should leave Tottenham
Jenas delivered his verdict on the Tottenham players ahead of the summer transfer window and believes that Cristian Romero should be sold.
In his view, the Argentine has been a liability for Spurs and is doing them more harm than good.
This season, the 27-year-old has been sent off twice in the Premier League and has picked up eight yellow cards in 22 games.
Romero has also publicly called out the hierarchy at a time when it was important to get the dressing room united.
As captain, he lacked the leadership needed to get the team out of the rut, and instead of becoming a part of the solution, he added to Tottenham’s woes.
Jenas compared Romero to Archie Gray and has been pleased with the latter showing the maturity and responsibility needed to play for Spurs.
Speaking on Wildcards, the former Tottenham midfielder said: “There’s one player that I’ve watched during this period of time where it’s been most difficult for Tottenham that has stood out like a sore thumb, and that is Archie Gray.
“He’s one of the youngest players on the pitch, but he takes more responsibility than anybody else on the pitch. He’s working his nuts off out there and he’s giving his all to try and keep Tottenham in the league. They’re the attributes of a player that you’ve been prepared to build your team around from a leadership perspective.
“In terms of the players that I think I would let go, I’d be happy to let Cristian Romero go. I think I spoke about this already in the podcast. I think he’s been a liability this year.”

If the North London outfit are to sell Romero this summer, they can expect there to be growing interest in his services.
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have both been keen on the Argentine for the last year and will likely explore the chance to bring him to Spain in the coming months.
It seems highly likely that Romero will leave Tottenham regardless of their Premier League status, as he has lost a large section of the fanbase and the hierarchy will also not be pleased at him openly calling them out.
He has a contract until 2029, which is positive news for the club as they can demand north of £60m if they remain in the top flight.
