Tottenham Hotspur attempted to hijack Barcelona’s deal to sign a player last summer with an offer of £34m.
The summer transfer window proved a successful one for Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou brought in a number of new faces.
Although Harry Kane was sold to Bayern Munich, players like Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison have arrived to provide upgrades.
Since the summer, Spurs have beaten Barcelona to the signing of the young midfield prospect Lucas Bergvall.
The Swede made the decision to make the move to Hotspur Way over Barcelona as he will join up with Postecoglou’s side in the summer.
But it seems Spurs may have missed out on one of their targets last summer to the Spanish giants.
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham tried to steal a march on Xavi’s side prior to signing Bergvall with another young prospect.

A number of new faces have come through the doors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and there has been an emphasis on bringing in players of a good age.
Besides Timo Werner, the majority of players brought in to the club have been around the age of 22 or younger.
This summer promises more change in north London with Postecoglou already admitting the club will be making moves in the coming months.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham made a move to steal Vitor Roque out of Barcelona’s hands last summer.
The Brazilian ended up making the move to Barcelona for a fee of €31m (£26.5m)) which has the potential to rise all the way up to €60m (£51.5m).
But Spurs did make an approach with an offer in the region of €40m (£34m) with the club really making an effort to bring in the 19-year-old.
Manchester United are also said to have been keen and Roque now looks at an uncertain future with the Spanish side ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old has had a real struggle since making the move to Barcelona having played just 276 minutes of league football this season.
Just two starts in La Liga have been awarded by Xavi with 11 league appearances in total where he has been able to score two goals.
He landed in Barcelona with high praise from one of the best to ever do it in Ronaldo Nazario, back in 2022, he told the media: “He is going to fly so high.”
With Roque’s time at Barcelona truly on the rocks ahead of the summer, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham’s interest has now passed.
Spurs are in the market for a new forward this summer, but his time in La Liga may have just turned their heads on to other targets.
