Tottenham Hotspur are now closing in on their first signing of the summer with the addition of an ‘really important’ player.

With the 2023/24 campaign now wrapped up for Tottenham following their trip to Melbourne, Australia, eyes will now be set on the summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has already seen a number of changes made to the squad and more is set to follow.

“We’ve already made tough decisions, we let some experienced players leave the club at the beginning of the year, some by choice. But again, I feel like if we’re really going to change, that means change,” he said earlier in the month.

Although exits are set to be approved over the coming weeks, Spurs still have their eyes on potential arrivals at Hotspur Way.

And it seems the Lilywhites are already closing in on the first of the summer with talks now advanced underway to bring in a player to bolster the front line.

Tottenham now closing in on signing forward this summer

Postecoglou has already spoken about his desire to bring in more forwards this summer as his side are set to play in Europe next season.

Spurs suffered heavily to injuries over the 2023/24 campaign with the likes of Richarlison one of the club’s big absentees during the season.

Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner were brought in to provide Postecoglou with some further options in attack and both proved effective signings.

However, the German looked set to return to RB Leipzig following the conclusion of his loan deal with Spurs and the Lilywhites not looking likely to take up his permanent option.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are now closing in on another loan deal for the 28-year-old to extend his stay by another year.

The proposed loan deal would be valid from July 2025 through to June 2025 on the same conditions as what was agreed in January between the two clubs.

It is now expected that Werner will remain at Spurs despite the club not looking to sign him permanently with their £15m option.

Timo Werner still has room to improve at Tottenham

Werner came in during the January transfer window with Heung-min Son jetting off for the Asian Cup and he was able to put in a good account for himself.

However, there was one issue with the German with more goals left out on the pitch with the 28-year-old squandering a number of big opportunities.

Postecoglou spoke about Werner during the trip to Australia recently having previously hailed him as “really important” during the season.

“Again a lot of that will depend on the negotiations between the clubs and how Timo feels,” he said last week.

“Again, from my perspective, I’m comfortable with that situation and I’ll let the other guys steer it to see what kind of outcome there is.”

It now looks like Postecoglou is set to get his man with the likes of Bryan Gil expected to move on this summer.

And with the experience he has in Europe, Werner could prove to be an upgrade on the likes of Gil whose future appears to be elsewhere.
