Tottenham Hotspur have held ‘conversations’ with Adrien Rabiot over a summer move and could be in the market for a top-quality midfielder.

The Juventus midfielder’s contract is set to expire this summer, which has alerted Tottenham to his availability on a free transfer.

Ange Postecoglou is expected to be in the market for a midfielder after the club decided against a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher in January.

The Spurs News spoke exclusively to HITC Football’s Graeme Bailey about Tottenham’s plans to bolster Postecoglou’s options in the middle of the park.

Tottenham ‘in conversations’ with Rabiot

Spurs have explored the possibility of landing Rabiot on a free transfer this summer, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg expected to depart.

“From what we’re hearing, they do want another midfielder in,” Bailey said. “We expect Hojbjerg to leave in the summer if they can find someone. Ange quite likes Hojbjerg, from I’m told, but in terms of his salary and standing in the squad, they’re ready to move on and so is he.

“I think if they’ve got a chance at a real worldie central midfielder, I think they’ll pull the trigger on it, I do.”

“There are a few options out there, Rabiot on a free. They are in conversations and looking around.

“He’s one of the best free agents on the market and has had a brilliant season for Juventus.”

Rabiot has been long-linked with a switch to England and is also attracting interest from our north London rivals Arsenal.

The 28-year-old is enjoying an impressive campaign in Turin, having netted four goals and provided three assists in 21 Serie A appearances.

He would certainly add some know-how to this current Spurs midfield and is a top-quality operator having earned 42 caps for France.

Postecoglou boasts a wealth of talented options in the middle of the park but the Spurs manager is lacking a different option at the base of his midfield.

We’ve already seen the club move to provide more depth at centre-back with the signing of Radu Dragusin and it would be no surprise to see a similar move in midfield.
